Welcome to Public Figment, a Newsletter by Dot Dannenberg.

Thanks for being here.

Public Figment is named after a mis-read of “Public Figure”--my favorite vague Instagram profession.

I am not a public figure. I also do not represent the US Department of State or the US Government, though I do write about where they send my family with the Foreign Service. (Previously: Saudi Arabia; Qatar; Washington, DC. Currently: Kyrgyz Republic.)

Writing on the internet is inherently public. I believe that sharing the truth about my human experience is the purest form of meaning-making I can do–for myself, and hopefully for you.

It’s the intersection with the figment where my writing lives. The things we wonder about. What we imagine and hope. How we live with the intangibles—change, grief, joy.

Free subscribers receive most letters. Paid subscribers receive extra letters, plus my undying gratitude.

If you’re more of an audiophile, I record voiceover for most newsletters, which I release as a podcast called The Fig.
